Ottakolam, meaning 'single form' or 'lone figure,' is a distinctive ritual found primarily in the Kasargod district. Unlike most Theyyam forms that involve multiple performers and attendants, Ottakolam concentrates the entire ritual into a single performer who embodies the goddess without any supporting cast. This likely reflects the more remote, resource-scarce temple traditions of northern Kasargod.

It is said that the goddess once appeared at a remote forest shrine where no other attendant deities or spirits were present. The lone priest, overwhelmed by her sudden manifestation, danced alone to honour her. The goddess, moved by his solitary devotion, declared that in this place, one devoted soul would always be sufficient — that her full power could flow through a single, undivided vessel.
