The Story Behind Theyyam.in
I'm a software engineer from Kerala who picked up a camera one season and started photographing Theyyam performances. What began as a photography hobby quickly turned into a deeper fascination with the art form itself.
But there was a problem: figuring out where and when the next Theyyam was happening was incredibly difficult. Schedules were scattered across WhatsApp groups, local notice boards, and word of mouth. There was no single place to find performance locations, understand the history behind each Theyyam form, or plan a visit.
So I thought — why not build a website that solves this? A place where anyone can find upcoming Theyyam performances on a map, learn the real stories behind each deity, and experience this two-thousand-year-old tradition without the guesswork.
That's how Theyyam.in was born — built from the frustration of a photographer who kept missing performances, and the belief that Kerala's most powerful ritual art form deserves a proper home on the internet.
