Kudiveeran belongs to the ancestral hero-worship tradition that forms a significant layer of the Theyyam pantheon. 'Kudi' means clan or family lineage, and 'Veeran' means warrior-hero. These deified warriors were historical individuals whose valour in defending their community earned them post-mortem worship.

ഐതിഹ്യം
Kudiveeran was a young warrior who held a river ford alone against an invading army during harvest season. He fought for an entire day and night, cutting down wave after wave of attackers. By dawn, the invaders retreated, but Kudiveeran had sustained mortal wounds. He died standing, sword raised, facing the enemy. The clan established a shrine at the ford where he fell.

ആചാരങ്ങളും അവതരണവും
The performer wears martial costume with leather armour and carries a sword and shield. The face painting features bold geometric patterns in black and deep red. The performance recreates the legendary battle, with controlled combat movements against invisible foes. At the climax, the performer addresses each family branch by name, delivering blessings and warnings.
