Karivellur is one of the most important centres for Theyyam in the Payyannur region. The temple's annual Perumkaliyattam (Great Kaliyattam) is among the largest Theyyam festivals in Kerala, drawing performers and devotees from across the Malabar region. The festival features an extraordinary number of Theyyam forms performed over consecutive days, making it a living encyclopedia of the tradition.
