Pappinissery Kavu is a well-known sacred grove situated in the Pappinissery panchayat near Kannur town. Despite the rapid urbanisation of the surrounding area, the kavu has maintained its dense canopy and ritual traditions. The grove is managed by the local community who organise the annual Kaliyattam with meticulous adherence to traditional protocols. The kavu is particularly significant because it demonstrates the survival of sacred grove traditions even in semi-urban settings. Multiple Theyyam forms are performed during the annual festival, with Bhagavathi and Chamundi forms being especially prominent.
